Your Guide to printing Saddle Stitched Booklets

Saddle stitching is one of the most common and cost-effective methods for binding booklets. It’s ideal for workbooks, event programs, magazines, reports and any document with a relatively low page count.

Your PDF file should be made up of single pages (just like any other document) and CopyQuick will convert the pages into booklet format for printing. The cover page should always be page 1. The number of pages must be a multiple of 4. If you do not wish the inside page (page 2) of the front cover to be printed , then insert a blank page. The same applies for the back cover and the inside page of the back cover.

We do not recommend booklets to exceed 120 pages. If your number of pages is more then we recommend choosing our Document Printing Service and select one of our binding options suitable for thick booklets.

Booklets can be printed on 2 paper sizes: on A3 sheets folded into an A4 size booklet or on A4 sheets folded into an A5 size booklet.

The printed sheets are folded to form the spine of the booklet. Heavy-duty staples are then driven through the spine to bind the inside pages of the booklet. At CopyQuick we offer a choice between 2 types of spines and depending on the artwork of the booklet we will perform a face trim since
folded sheets cause the inner pages to stick out slightly beyond the outer ones (a natural effect called creep).

Frequently asked questions

Supporting text for your FAQ section.

What file format should documents be saved as for printing?

We only accept PDF files for printing. This is done to avoid unwanted changes in the layout of the document. If editable documents are allowed such as Microsoft Files: Word, Excel or PowerPoint, changes in the layout may occur when opened on a different computer. This is why we restrict uploads to PDF format only. To save documents in PDF format you may choose the print command and choose a PDF print driver or choose the Save As command and choose pdf as a file format.

I have prepared my file in Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint. How do I save my files as PDF?

Most programs offer the ability to ‘Export’ or ‘Save As’ the file to a PDF even if your computer does not have a professional PDF editor. Once you have converted your file to a PDF, you can view your new PDF with any pdf reader that you are able to download and use for free!

My file contains unique fonts. How can I guarantee that all fonts will be printed as intended?

When you embed a unique font, you are allowing your PDF file to display text the way you designed it, whether the computer you are viewing your file on has the font or not.

Unembedded fonts can be an issue that goes unnoticed until the final print is received. Some programs will automatically replace an unembedded font with a different font, if the printer’s computer or program doesn’t have the font downloaded.

You may have used a fun font such as “Orange Slices” when designing your file on your computer. However, when it is sent to another person, that person’s computer may not have “Orange Slices” installed! In this case, that person’s computer will use a default font (such as “Arial” font) to display everything that was designed in “Orange Slices”.

PDFs allow you to check if the fonts are embedded. It is as easy as clicking the “Ctrl” and “D” keys at the same time. Then a pop-up window will appear and under the “Fonts” tab, there will be a list of all the fonts used in the file and state if they are embedded or not.

Will you check my documents for spelling and grammar before printing?

On submitting your order, we assume that the content of the order was checked and confirmed. We will treat your order as the final submission. We do not carry out any proof reading and for confidentiality purposes we do not read through the content of the document. Therefore, any mistakes, irrespective of how noticeable they may seem, may go unnoticed.

How can I ensure to get the best colour print possible?

When it comes to colour prints, a difference may be visible from the product on screen to the product on paper, since the colour spectrum of a light-emitting screen is different from the colour spectrum used by printers to produce a full colour print. Digital art works use RGB (red, green, blue) as a colour spectrum, while printers use CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, key (black)). Therefore, to get the best possible print, when creating your artwork use CMYK instead of RGB.
